Internet radio – the #1 place that fans of indie music like you and I discover new music – is literally days away from bring silenced.
Today the US Court of Appeals declined to delay implementation of the Copyright Royalty Board’s recent decision to increase Internet radio sound recording royalty rates by up to 1200% (that is not a typo!) and to impose a $500 per-channel “minimum fee” that will total more than $1 billion annually. Assuming you own a portable player other than an iPod or just want to download to your computer to play or burn for personal use, here’s a guaranteed way to save 10% on every download that you buy.
With few exceptions download prices are pretty consistent at 99 cents for single songs and $9.99 for full albums. But all you need to do to save 10% on almost every download you buy is to click on over to to WalMart.com where all tracks are priced at 88 cents each and full albums are $9.44 or less.

Prices at iTunes and most other download stores have held steady at $.99 per song and $9.99 per album. But last week iTunes lowered prices with “Next Big Thing”,  an ongoing promotion offering 40 up-and-coming artists at $5.99 and $6.99 for full album downloads. There are no discounts for single songs.
Two standouts for the initial list worth paying extra attention to are The Greencards and The Bird & The Bee.

Today our parent b5media is officially launching its OurDigitalMusic.com as part of its new Music Channel of 30 diverse music blogs.
“Since b5media first launched in September of 2005, we’ve felt the music scene was being vastly underserved by professional blogs,” said Jeremy Wright, b5media’s CEO. A couple of days go we told you that almost certainly illegal Russian download site AllOfMp3 had been replaced by MP3Sparks. Now the same notorious bunch is back in action at AllTunes.com.
