Concert Ticket Fees May Drop Next Year

Concert Ticket Fees May Drop Next Year

New reports point to the ticket selling deal between giant national concert promoter Live Nation and Ticketmaster ending late next year. Fans have long complained about the high fees that Ticketmaster charges which often add 10-30% to the cost of a concert or club ticket.
Now it appears that Live Nation wants to control and improve its relationship with concert goers by cutting out the middleman. One can only hope that it will lead to lower fees for fans.

More DRM-Free Tracks Now Available

More DRM-Free Tracks Now Available

This week WalMart.com went live with DRM free mp3 tracks for 94 cents from music giants EMI and Universal.  Real’s Rhapsody has also just added DRM free tracks from Universal ans iTunes has sold $1.24 premium quality tracks from EMI for several weeks.
What does this men to you?  With a little searching, you can now buy tracks from two of the four largest record labels without any of the annoying restrictions that often prevents you from copying them onto CD’s and moving them from device to device.
Expect more labels and download stores to drop DRM in the coming weeks.

MySpaceMp3.org Closed But New Sites Will Follow With Code Available On Net

MySpaceMp3.org Closed But New Sites Will Follow With Code Available On Net

MySpaceMp3.org, the site that we wrote about late last week that allowed you to easily download mp3’s from the hundreds of thousands of songs streamed on MySpace, has closed.
The Spanish programmer that created the web site claims that MySpace forced him to shut down and offers emails as proof. But he is still offering the computer code used to create the offending download site free “for informational purposes only.” Undoubtedly within a few days a Google search will show new sites offering a similar service.

Download Any Track From MySpace With MySpaceMP3.org Hack. UPDATE: Site Is Down

UPDATE : MySpaceMP3.org is down as of Monday Morning 8/10. Check back for more updates.
We can guarantee you that this one is not really legal…
New hack MySpaceMP3.org allows you to quickly search for and download a DRM-free mp3 of any of the hundreds of thousands of songs streamed on MySpace. The only trick we found in our “test” was to be sure that you enter a band’s name exactly as it appears at the end of the MySpace url (for example http://www.myspace.com/bandname) with no spaces.
I wonder how you’ll be spending your weekend?

The 25th Anniversary Of The CD

The 25th Anniversary Of The CD

Hidden among today’s usual horrible headlines was a small item that almost went unnoticed. August 17th marks the Silver Anniversary of the often silver discs we know as CD’s.
Compact Discs may be on the way out in the digital download age. But they were quite a technologicial marvel when they were first manufactured back on August 17, 1982 in Hanover, Germany. Almost instantly CD’s were a big hit and by 1986, CD players were outselling record players. By 1988 CD’s outsold records.

TheProductionSide.com Proves Why 90’s Music Matters

TheProductionSide.com Proves Why 90’s Music Matters

Tell us about your new music blog TheProductionSide.com?
I mainly write about 90’s alternative/rock and sometimes stuff older and newer at theproductionside.com (the name may be changing soon though). There are album reviews, concert updates and sharing some useless knowledge as well. (That’s TPS faves Stone Temple Pilots on the right.)
Why did you choose this topic?
#1. I love this music
#2. I want people to know that many of these forgotten bands are still around.
What would your readers be surprised to know about you?
Maybe the fact that I am currently an elementary education/history major.
