3 UK + 2 Canadian Bands You Need To Know About
>>> Ladytron – Destroy Everything You Touch Ahead of the forthcoming re-release of their brilliant Witching Hour album, Britain’s most bewitching synth-rock band Ladytron will release a new single “Destroy Everything You Touch” on October 22nd. The track, already a bona-fide hot on mainstream American radio stations, is an uber-disco stomp and one of the band’s most inspiring tracks to date. Featuring a Hot Chip remix, “Destroy Everything You Touch” looks set to follow in the footsteps of its stateside success and is already picking up great radio and TV support.
>>> King Jacks – Nothing Last Forever King Jacks are not one of these teeny bopper bands that play festivals for barely-conceived kids. They are a fully honed and skilled outfit; no warbling nervous voices or glow sticks here. They used to be called The Basics, and a little bit of change in both name and line-up has done them good. King Jacks are good – Franz Ferdinand good. I can’t help think though that if they were 17 and from the States, their gigs would be in Koko.
>>> The Troubadours – Gimme Love Liverpool based back-beat indie-popsters The Troubadours seem to be making some tiny waves at the moment. They’ve teamed up with legendary indie producer John Leckie (Stone Roses, Muse, Pink Floyd), Q Magazine listed them in their 50 essential downloads of August and also featured ‘ Gimme Love ‘ as their track of the day back in May, 2007. Upon my first listen I could instantaneously hear the effect and influence of such bands as James, The Stone Roses, The La’s, Oasis and more obviously The Beatles – the original Mersey-beat band!
>>>Sunbiz – Lay Low This week my heart is in Canada. Sunbiz has intergalactic beats where bells ring from the sky and an Almighty hand uses the Earth as a turntable. Embracing music ingenuity, this producing mastermind blends jazz, rising oceanic tides, and funky percussion. Is that a little Bill Withers I also hear in the melody? Check out Sunbiz’s track, ‘Lay Low.’ Once this has been digested, mosey on down to his teaser mix, which is dessert for real hip hoppers.
>>>Midtown Productions - Best MC From the underground hip hop scene in Canada comes suspenseful violins and lyricism that seizes garbage-rapping emcees by the balls. Scrimige’s lyricist style is more of an all-out sprint over the track, only letting up to breathe. He kind of reminds me of this rapper Jake Lefco from Philadelphia. Anywhoo, check out Scrimige’s track ‘Best MC.’ Canada, I might have to stick around.
