Baseheadz – Hip Hop Feat. MC Kev Brown (Funky Chicken Remix)
So does this make me a basehead? Doesn’t that mean that you do crack? Whatever. I am liking his tracks though. His track, “Hip Hop”, featuring Mc Kev Brown is a funky entrée of soul. I feel like I am back in Philly watching a show where the bassist chews liquorice. The volume on the bass guitar has been upped a bit on this neo-soul track. Jill Scott would blow greatness on something like this.
Dom P – New World Order Pt. 2 (featuring Tribeca)
This song has a grand opening intro as if some red curtain is being opened to introduce Dom P to an audience wearing tuxedos. Following is an important sample of Al Pacino’s tirade in a restaurant in the movie Scarface. Listen to the message. In Dom P’s description he mentions DJ Premier as one of his influences. This is easily recognized by the consistent bell sounds in the song before the loop of what sounds to be a complete orchestra. Not bad. Not bad at all.
Theoretical Girl – Red Mist
“Theoretical Girl, the woman who refuses to ‘exist in the physical world’, stemming from the roughest end of Southend on Sea. “I managed to escape the white stiletto and boy racer brigade.” And be grateful that she did! She is creating music without a band, and without any pomp and unnecessary ceremony. Theoretical Girl, one woman with a guitar, and with the help of some blissful mastering on her part, the backing track is the only other added component. This is a recipe for truly amazing, joyous and heavenly simplistic music. I
nfluenced by bands such as Twisted Charm and others to include Fad Gadget and Essential Logic, it looks very promising before you even hear her fantastically ear-pleasing music. Theoretical Girl’s sound holds all that is brilliant about her influences and takes this magic into a brand new dimension to brilliant effect…” – ARTROCKER
THE WOLFMEN – Cecile
Finally being released on Nov 25th, you may already have seen the making of the video for this on Britain’s Next Top Model … a slightly less interesting association perhaps than that band members Chris & Marco have between them written hits with Adam & the Ants, Sinead O Connor and Guy Chambers. Coming on like
El Toco – Smiling
For anyone into Interpol (the first album) or Sebadoh (the discordant rock bits, not the soppy ballads) try this band, also from Switzerland. Although mostly instrumental this track has a great vocal and sounds not totally unlike The Pixies. They’ve recently been collaborating with a girl group from
