Radiohead Says “Pay What You Want” For New Album

The new Radiohead release “In Rainbow” is now available for pre-order and the band is asking fans to pay anything from 1 pence (plus a 45 pence service fee) to whatever they think is fair for the album download. There is also a two vinyl disc + CD + download package for 40 Pounds Sterling ($81.39 US) available.

Downloads purchased will be released Oct 10th and the box set will ship in early December. “So far” this offer is only available on this special band web site where transactions are a bit slow. Don’t worry too much about the pence and pounds vs. dollars and cents or your local currency. Your credit card company will make the conversion charging you a bit for privilege.

Its a creative move from a creative band.

This is a fine idea, that just may spread to other established artists. The way I see it, Radiohead will profit far more from this than they would have releasing via tradition (labels) methods. Bravo for them!
