5 More New Indie Bands You Need To Know About
Rue Melo – Fallen A tri-lingual beauty who sings in English, French and Spanish, Melo has a level of soul rarely seen in today’s artists. In addition to her vocal and songwriting capabilities Melo is also backed by one heck of an impressive band. I was hooked within the first 90 seconds of this album and look forward to keeping it in my player for a very long time. The music of Rue Melo and her band is like Joss Stone on a whole other level making her eponymous debut a definite album of the year candidate. (via 60Second Review)
Gemma Fox – Let Feelings Grow Creeping through the sheets of R&B lurks UK singer Gemma Foxx. Her single, ‘Let Feelings Grow,’ is a smooth ballad with a melody that clearly draws from the styles of Timbaland. From the orchestral opening to the tender vocals, Gemma Foxx just might be a name that will not vanish anytime soon. Also check out club banger, ‘Boxers Delinquent Mix.’ Pull out those light sticks!
The Hair – Disco/Retro The Hair’s ‘Disco/Retro’ is very Sunshine Underground, and we make no excuses for saying that is in no way a bad thing, the whole track brimming with fun and catchy dance floor jauntiness, all revolving around one b***h of a central riff and drum distraction. The production is spot-on, Duels’ own James taking on that aspect, and manages to sound as fresh as a daisy but dirty as a vomit ridden mosh-pit, the bass lines being the real grit of the single, a single that’s once again made us all look upwards to Leeds. Iroc Omega – Act Stupid This emcee sprints into the booth (perhaps due to temperature) in a state that I am glad to see represented: Alaska. On ‘Act Stupid,’ I Roc Omega does everything an emcee should. His wordy verses penetrate this frantic beat nicely. Ahhh, the wonderful world of hip hop!
The Lovebirds – The Devil Song Their grasp of dynamics is perfect, especially vocally, leading to some brilliantly explosive moments within the tracks. Their “sound” – from the crunchy guitars, sharp snappy snares and deep thumping bass all work together on top of this to create some of the most exciting music I’ve heard in ages, dirty roaring blues songs with repetitive shamanistic lyrics that really just make you want to go a bit silly.
