5 More Great Indie Bands You’ll Want To Know About
Lucky Soul – Lips Are Unhappy, Lonely This Christmas
In an effort to bring do-it-yourself culture to the UK Charts this Christmas – Lucky Soul are in a bid to make it to number one for the Christmas Charts this year. Their single is ‘Lips Are Unhappy,’ backed with their cover of festive favourite ‘Lonely This Christmas’. All proceeds go to War Child.
Sparky’s Magic Piano – Feel The Beat and Do It Anyway
The majority of Sparky’s Magic Piano’s debut album is delicate electro pop similar to those Saint Etienne produced bands that appeared in the beginning of the 1990’s like Supermarket or Golden. This is clearly evident throughout the album and on songs like Mend or Something Somewhere it really stands out. The band also has their indie pop side and on glockenspiel driven tracks like You Like Her they could easily give contemporaries like Pocketbooks and The School a run for their money. (via indie mp3)
Envy And Other Sins – Prodigal Son
Hailing from Burm, UK a proper band who understand the fine tradition of pop music. Decent tunes? Know how to make a proper racket? Melody to go? Super Furries? Early U2? XTC? Yup. Yup. Yup. Marvellous stuff. T
Renee Sebastian – These Are the Signs
Hailing from the NYC is songstress Renee Sebastian. Her single, ‘These Are The Signs,’ is an upbeat and poppy song that relies on her bluesy lyrics, rhythmic guitar strumming, and necessary appearances from the horns and the xylophone. This is sure to make female listeners decide whether or not love for their beau has ended. She refers to herself as a complex woman. Complexity clearly has its benefits.
Tha Truth – The Drop
St. Louis!!!! An emcee called, Tha Truth, coming out of St. Louis? I must get to know this guy because the other rappers I know from St. Louis (Nelly and Chingy) are simply not doing it for me. So I donated my ear to Tha Truth and his song, ‘The Drop.’ With a sample that might make the older heads of this Earth to two-step in their Stacy Adams shoes, Tha Truth has united a southern flow with an old school melody. And it does not come out like garbage southern rap. Kudos to Missouri.
