The first 5 downloads highlight the label’s rich history with world music. Artists to be featured include Nigeria’s juju master King Sunny Ade, world renowned guitarists Ali Farka Toure & Ry Cooder, the sophisticated instrumental sounds of Toumani Diabate, Baka Beyond from the rainforest of Cameroon, and Taj Mahal & Toumani Diabate.

A quick update on free add supported download service Qtrax:
Despite a flashy launch and a nice player download, you still can’t download a single free track from the service and I hear from people that should know that it will be days if not weeks before that changes.

A quick search on Amazon today found thousands of DRM free mp3’s from Sony BMG artists ranging from Bob Dylan to The Foo Fighters to George Winston. Some acts only had full album downloads available with a “Comin Soon” on individual mp3 tracks.
Sony BMG is the world’s second largest group of labels encompassing Columbia, Epic, Sony, RCA, Legacy, Windham Hill, BMG, Jive, Arista and other big labels.

Do you have a portable player or other piece of electronic gear that broke after the warranty has ended?  Don’t throw it in the trash yet.
1st – What credit card did you buy in on? Some American Express and other cards double or extend the manufacturers warranty if you bought it on the card.
2nd – Check to see if there’s been a recall.  Google the make and model number and see what pops up.   Here’s an example:

UPDATE 2:

Qtrax is now live (if you can get on with the heavy traffic) but without any of the promised downloads while they scramble to finish deals with the major labels. 
The interface is well done but pointless without downloads. 
Some are questioning if the splashy launch which included Don Henley and James Blunt was just a Qtrax penny stock manipulation scheme 

The Qtrack download software that was promised at midnight EST Sunday did not launch as promised. But the company promises it will launch soon.
