New UK Bands You Need To Know About
Broken Records – Broken Records EP
All 4 tracks are a little different with A Good Reason being a chaotic, relentless clatter of a song driven forward by sawing violin work that reminds me a little bit of an odd combination of two early Men They Couldn’t Hang Songs. It could even compare to some early Levellers tracks.
Nephu Huzzband – Papers EP
Nephu Huzzband, a young quartet from Nottingham, are influenced by Joy Division as well as The Cure and Mission Of Burma. The title track, Papers, is an excellent and intense reverb-heavy track which hurtles its way to the chorus at breakneck speed. The more refined B-side ‘Either This Wallpaper Goes Or I Do’ is a bit of Pilot To Gunner thanks to its shouted emotional vocals but it also has some strong melodies at its heart. On this evidence, Nephu Huzzband could be a young group that are well worth listening out for.
Daruso – Closest Thing to Heaven
Pop and dance music is happiness on a unicycle. It does not coincide with depression too well. How could it? The piercing percussion, airy synths, all that happiness is for the jubilant. Daruso’s, ‘Closest Thing to Heaven,’ is trying to airlift you as close as possible. It is about time for Daruso to see the nightlife.
