Flash vs. Hard Drive For Your Portable Media Player
SanDisk today introduced Clip And View a 32GB flash memory drive music and video player with a suggested retail price of $349. But for not much more you can get 80-200GB’s in an iPod or Zune. Traditionally flash players came with 1-8 GB of memory and are for just part of your music collection. But SanDisk and others are changing all that with new tiny drives that hold thousands of songs and hours of video.
Why pay more for a flash drive based player than a traditional hard drive player? Because they are:
- smaller and lighter
- have fewer moving parts which makes them more relaible
- have a longer battery life
Unless you’re into having the newest and best player, the SanDisk Clip And View may not be for you…yet. But keep your eyes open (and read OurDigitalMusic.com) and you’ll see prices drop and drives get bigger as 2008 progresses. By 2009 most music players will be flash drive based.
And you heard it here first…
