5 New Indie Bands You Need To Know About

The Locarnos
Speaking of underage wonders, how about the Locarnos. I guess the best way of describing them would just be as an even younger Cajun Dance Party (so like 14 and 15 instead of 16 and 17), and while they definitely show their age a bit more than CDP, they also show a lot of promise. They’re sound is still pretty rough at this point, but with some professional tutelage and better production, I can see them doing big things in a few years’ time. They’ve definitely got the industry’s attention, and here are the two best cuts from their self-released debut EP, Get Your Coat On. It’s not too much to write home about now, but just you wait.

Two Beats ApartI Want You To Love Me
Up on stage, are two guys and a girl who are quietly setting the stage on fire. Gone are the unimaginative covers, this lot are playing their own stuff, and it’s good. It’s very good in fact; the joint vocals are honestly heartfelt, sung by a girl (Ruth Busby) with a voice both soulful and sweet, like honey-flavoured ghosts. Impressive, but then she’s met her match in her co-vocalist, Sam Townsend, who sings like someone’s ripped out his heart and is showing it to him. He and fellow guitarist Steve Schofield are holding court like there’s a Philharmonic Orchestra juggling burning babies on stage; the melodies are simple and beautiful; as well written as they are performed. Listen to them now.

GreenJadeGunz Down Secret Remix
From South London comes the strong hip hop brigade, GreenJade.  Their indiestore offers plenty versions of their hit single, ‘Gunz Down.’ My suggestion: check out the Secret Remix.  Classic jazzed-out hip hop at its finest. I don’t know London; you just might be a bit hungrier in hip hop than these New Yorkers.

Imelda May Falling In Love With You Again
Seductive rockabilly and smoky jazz with blues riffs throughout. Flashbacks to the passion and fragile vocals of timeless Billy Holiday and Dinah Washington yet with band sounds recalling The Paladins and the likes of Jimmie Vaughan’s guitar style served as a perfect backdrop.

TiceDu Bisy Keine Lady
I figure why not?  Why not let the German emcee get hers?  Tice’s track, ‘Du Bist Keine Lady’ is filled with an upbeat, pounding melody with English and German lyrics floating above. I have wanted to showcase hip hop from the non-English speaking for awhile.  So here is a simple taste: Tice.

All downloads are available via the UK’s indiestore.com. We hear rumors that indiestore will be coming to the US and other parts of Europe soon.
