Four Million Reasons Why Amazon Is Officially The Best Place To Buy Downloads
![]()
No I don’t work for or own stock in Amazon.
And yes it’s me who is the official calling this announcement official.
But here are the facts:
- The catalog is deep. As of this morning Amazon offered 4,116,8832 (that’s 4+ MILLION) individual tracks and 348,349 digital downloads
- Only Amazon has DRM free mp3 downloads from all four major label groups (Universal, Warner Music, EMI and Sony BMG)
- Most tracks cost 89 cents. That’s 10 cents cheaper than iTunes and most other online retailers.
- The user interface is wonderfully simple and offers one click ordering after you register.
Yes, there still a few strange gaps in the catalog like U2, but I’ll bet its either the record labels or bands standing in the way and not Amazon.
What is your favorite place to buy downloads?

you are maybe right, but until now the digital sales of my label base records & act Wipeout show different numbers: 91% iTunes!
While I do agree that the DRM free downloads and great pricepoint are amazing, the interface does leave alot to be desired. I really wish they would separate it from their already massive interface and make it more music specific… I am probably just acustomed to the iTunes interface which we all used initially (since it was the only real player forever!)…. eMusic.com is also a GREAT source of DRM free music!!! Their catalog is not as mainstream as Amazon, but their subscription model is pretty awesome…
