5 New International Indie Bands You’ll Want To Know About

Video Love Guns Forever! If I Didn’t Need Sleep
Having released a full length studio album last year, Swedish art rock band Video Love Guns Forever! are certainly both ambitious and highly accomplished. Their music manages to balance grungy punk, thick with bass and rich in distortion, upon an almost ethereal and dreamy wave of sound – and it works beautifully. Video Love Guns Forever! make music which is pretty unique and really rather special.

 Kat Starr JohnsonRoller Coaster
Cape Town, South Africa delivers you Kat Starr Johnson.  She is a talented vocalist who is in the center ambient keyboards and slow, but moving percussion.  Her track, ‘Rollercoaster’ is a blend of jazz and soul where the songstress reflects on desiring a ‘true love instantly.’  Also check out: ‘Nothing Like The First Time’ which has the melody similar to Norah Jones’ style; easily as enjoyable.

The Family SimpsonSnowfall (free)
This Aberdeen guitar based singer songwriter is no James Blunt… The Family Simpson mixes acoustic ditties with sinister basslines, crunchy drums with an almost cosmic ambience. There’s certainly no fear of experimentation here, and the combination of contrasting sounds and genres really works. Different and quite beautiful.

10ShottMemory Blank
At the top of indiestore’s hip hop charts you will find the artist, 10Shott, and his song ‘Memory Lane.’  The intro is a suspenseful orchestra.  I felt like I was walking into a burning building.  Signal the violins. ‘Don’t you hate it when your memory’s blank,’ says 10Shott during his refrain.  The theme of this song is about not having anything to write about, but clearly he does. The track is filled with his rhyming words fitting for this thriller ballad.

PocketbooksCross The Line
Sometimes life’s mundanities get in the way of being a grown-up. Sometimes it’s hard to decide whether to even be a grown-up, with all it entails – suits, houses and 4 x 4s. Pocketbooks playfully approach the subject, tousle its hair and take it on a tube journey in their charming debut single Cross the Line, a self-questioning internal dialogue tinkered out across delicious boy/girl harmonies and an irresistible tambourine beat.
