Paris Street – The Dress Song
With a sound drenched in Americana, jangly guitars and organs, and vocals from a singer who sounds like he’s just woken from a whiskey induced coma, it’s no surprise this band hail from the home of country music, Nashville, Tennessee. The Dress Song is a gentle folk ditty imploring a girlfriend to ditch the trousers and wear a dress for a change. The lyrics may be slightly dubious but the effect is ultimately very sweet.

The Boom Bap Cats – The Jazz Records

The Boom Bap Cats pay a classy tribute to jazz music in their punchy, yet beautifully Harlemesque track, The Jazz Records’. The group hails from Montreal, Quebec and has Johnny IllDigger on the record spins and Mister Slang on the microphone. Crate digging at its finest, this group is just another sequence in Montreal’s expanding Hip Hop scene. Also, the sample on this track is soooooo nice.

Jelly’s Last Jam – The Sniper Smiles

These fast-paced piano ballads blend bewitching harmony with indignant dialogue. A pulsating combination of sound in The Sniper Smiles demonstrates the depth of talent in this indie pop’s newest single – a vibrant and energetic jolt of rock n roll with a spin. Glamorous Swede DeDe brings life to ‘Turn You On’, which was written and produced by Pras of the Fugees. Remember them? The Score? L-Boogie and Wyclef? I pray for your memory. Moving on… it’s an energized ballad with enough call and response in the song that club hoppers should be pleased. DeDe sings innocently “I really wasn’t trying to turn you on.” Yeah. Whatever.

CT – Raindrop

This sensational self-starter hails from Glasgow, Scotland, where he recorded his first EP in a good friend’s bedroom. From there, his list of friends grew alongside the popularity of his infectiously smooth sound. Mirroring the acoustic finesse and voluptuous vocals of UK favourite David Gray, CT (Colin Taylor) (joined by bassist Rowan Petch) is on his way to folk-pop fame.
