Amazon Opens DRM Free MP3 Download Store

It’s a great day for those of us who love to download music online but hate all of the restrictions that come with iTunes (you can only play most of the tracks bought there on your iPod) and most other download stores (you can’t play most of the tracks you buy on your iPod).
After months of speculation Amazon has opened an all mp3 DRM free download store with most of the tracks prices at 89 to 99 cents and albums $5.99 to$9.99. The impressive offering of 2.3 million tracks does not include every major label or hit artist but it does include thousands of tracks from Universal (many more than I’ve seen elsewhere) and EMI as well as 20,000 (that’s not a typo) indie labels.
I’ll be writing more about this new store in the coming days as I spend more time in it and I’d love to know what you think of it. In the meantime read more about Amazon mp3’s on our sister blog Hypebot and check out the new online store here.
