Next: A 20 Million Song iPod
Can you imagine carrying every song ever recorded around in your pocket?
It’s possible thanks to new technology developed at the University of Rochester that digitally reproduces music in a format 1,000 times smaller than a regular MP3.
LET’S DO THE MATH: An 80G iPod can currently hold about 20,000 songs. Multiply that by 1000 using the new technology and your same player could hold 20 million songs.
Actually finding that many tracks could be the hard part (and expensive!). The World’s Largest Record Collection only boasts 6 million songs and Amazon offers just 4,683,676 tracks for sale.

Wow…unfortunately there are not 20 million little wayne remixes yet, so I would have a lot of wasted space in my iPod.

Sadly no ipod has anywhere near the processing power to decode this codec. The codec works by recreating all the physics of an actual instrument and the air blowing through it (in the case of a clarinet). You’ll need something a bit more powerful to recreate those physics in real time
