The Reward
The musical influences of this Glasgow, Scotland four-piece are clear, and they’re not ashamed to admit it. Echoes of Interpol, Joy Division and Editors resonate through their music, but The Reward have created a sound drenched in reverb and haunting lyrics which more than stands on its own, shoulder to shoulder with the music of their peers.
Olivia Broadfield
Although relatively unknown in her native Coventry, this electro-acoustic pop singer songwriter is having phenomenal success over in the US. Her tracks have featured in MTV’s The Hills, The Real World and Jessica Alba’s latest film The Eye to name just a few, she’s had extensive airplay and has been riding high in a number of US music charts. Download Olivia’s track as featured in the Real World exclusively from indiestore.
Heyday
From a group of melodious musicians brewed in Belfast come beautiful, unique and catchy tracks that discuss the penetrating, sometimes painstaking, passion that we ultimately live for – love. Combining whimsical vocals with inspired instrumentation ranging from the cheeky pep of the Beatles to the heartfelt lyrics of Coldplay to the radiating energy of Radiohead, Heyday has hit a peak in musical performance.
Kill It Kid
Having already caused quite a stir within the Bristol and Bath, UK music scene, folk rock quintet Kill It Kid now have their sights set on nationwide notoriety. Rewiring pre-war delta blues, compressing the Mississippi’s memoirs, their debut EP is looking to be one of the most innovative and exalted records of 2008. Kill It Kid are a group that evoke a million adjectives. Their music is “gorgeous, sometimes raucous” with a “swaggering, brutal charm”, but the subtle sensibilities of their song writing are what will help them endure.
Billy Wears Dresses
If wearing women’s clothing inspires such fun and imaginative music, then all males who know how to strum a guitar should head to the dress barn immediately. Billy Wears Dresses, a tripod of UK talent create funky, clunky, catchy tunes – good for a day at the beach or a group dance at a bah mitzvah. The jolly tone and charming lyrics give way to an overall cheery, toe-tapping good time

The Franks – Suzy Can’t Spell They’re playing Glastonbury Fest this summer, they were selected from over 2300 entrants in Q Magazine’s New Talent competition, they’ve had Radio 1 airplay and they’ve toured America’s East Coast. Now The Franks have released their debut album Suzy Can’t Spell on indiestore, and 2008 is looking like it might just be their year “At a time where world-weary means tight-jeaned indie, emotional means EMO, and ‘popular’ means affected, this is odd, exciting, and refreshingly honest.” [Fireline Music Magazine]
Hari and Aino – I Will Leave If you can taste the rainbow in a bag of Skittles you can hear it in these songs from Hari and Aino. Bursting with vibrant colour and spirit, this quirky pop quintet paint an ornate soundscape of jolly pop. From the shores of Sweden, sweetened by the sugary sound of leading lady Andrea Dahlkild’s lyrics, Hari and Aino is positively pleasing to the palate.
Kotki Dwa – Robin’s Clogs Aw, don’t they sound cute, like little fizzy sweets, or bubbles in pink lemonade. The name isn’t deceptive. This band encompass everything that is good about music. Their charming, highly addictive tracks contain heartfelt, teary, hopelessly pretty vocals that make you want to cry. Basically, Kotki Dwa are like a musical Mary Poppins – practically perfect in every way. They’re a shining beacon of electro-pop with ebbing guitars, softness, sweetness, twinkles and light. What’s not to love?! (http://www.epigram.org.uk/view.php?id=2266)
The Meltdown - You could dance to this funk-punk, I guess, though you might break your ankles if you try. Almost everything is played fast and hard, and most songs build to some kind of thunderous instrumental climax. Copeland and Gray don’t trade guitar licks as much as they set their six-strings against each other like roosters in a cock-fight. The Meltdowns are closer to the anarchic spirit of Gang Of Four than any of the recent spate of dance-rock imitators.
Sounds Like April – Something Beautiful This swooning duo from the Western Isles of Scotland delivers those happily-ever-after harmonies that leave young girls spellbound – and gushing over the first guy that crosses their path next. Overflowing with vehemently romantic melodies and passionately anguished acoustics, Sounds Like April serves as the perfect soundtrack to a rained-on relationship in need of those May flowers.
