Virgin To Shut Digital Download Store October 19th
Virgin will shut its music
subscription and download services in the US and UKas of October 19th.
In the UK, Virgin Digital stopped selling tracks last week and is no longer accepting new customers. U.S. customers will face a similar fate, but will get a credit to be used on Napster’s music download service.
Virgin Digital allows customers to download tracks four more times to replace lost or damaged copies. Since that option will no longer be available, Virgin is advising customers to burn the songs to CD. Burning the tracks will let those customers re-import the tracks to the computer as MP3 files.
Tracks from Virgin’s subscription service will also be unplayable after the stores close.
