Will Internet Radio Be Silenced Forever On July 15th?
If you enjoy listening to music radio via the internet - and with a lot of great music its the only place you can hear it - then you may want to write your Congressman and Senator today. I’m not making this up.
Recently the the US Copyright Royalty Board ruled that net broadcasters ranging from RadioAOL to Live365 and Soma.FM to your local college station’s net stream must pay artists and record labels much higher royalty rates. The new rates which
go into effect July 15th are so high that most broadcasters and independent analysts believe that it will force the majority of the broadcasts that you and I love off the air.
The Internet Radio Equality Act has been introduced in Congress to roll back the higher rates along with a similar bill in the Senate. These bills must move forward before July 15th to stop the rate increase.
If you want to help save this important avenue for great independent music exposure, then write or call Congress today. You can find contact info here and more info at SaveNetRadio.org.
